Cancer Game
For the last 5 years, The Village Lady Viking’s Basketball Program has been hosting the Viking vs. Cancer game to support those fighting the battle and those who have lost it. This year on Friday, January 25th, the Lady Vikings Varsity team played The Awty International School’s varsity basketball team and won with a score of 84-13.
“ We are trying to teach our athletes to use their platforms to bring more awareness about cancer and since so many people can relate to it, it is more for the people,” Girls Varsity Basketball Coach, Doug Brotherton, said.
Brotherton’s father is battling cancer for the second time, and the Viking vs. Cancer game was the first game he was able to attend since last season. This year alone, the program raised $15,000 and will be in communication with MD Anderson Cancer Center who will recommend a local charity.
Ash is a senior with his first year on staff and has been at Village for three years.
