With a staggering 111 clubs hosted at The Village School, it takes more than just an idea to stand out. The Viking Game Development Club, or VGDC, is a prime example of how an idea can turn into a thriving organization. The VGDC is a brand-new club for the 2025-26 school year.
The VGDC helps students create their own games, either individually or as a team. The club currently has more than 20 members. “As of right now, our team is focusing on creating story games in small groups.” Says sophomore Ritu Maiti, a member of the club. “We allow them to grow in what they find most comfortable.”
The club encourages creativity through technology. “We do not limit our members to a specific engine, and we allow them to grow in what they find most comfortable,” Maiti said. Anyone interested in the growing tech field should consider joining as a way to bond with like-minded individuals and make time for their passions.
The Club’s primary focus is to promote creativity. Many members are enrolled in classes related to computer science, coding, and web development. While these classes are great for building technical skills, they don’t always nurture the creativity that comes from personal game development. “I also believe this club nurtures a fantastic sense of collaboration and togetherness, as should happen in a game development team,” Maiti said.
For the remainder of the semester, the VGDC plans to complete one major team project and one smaller individual project. “I’d really enjoy it if everyone collectively worked on a unique tycoon game,” said Maiti.
