The Black Student Union (BSU) is a space where students can celebrate cultures and share experiences at The Village School. Focused on unity and leadership, BSU empowers students and educates others about black history and diverse cultures. “BSU gives us a place to express who we are and be proud of our culture. It’s more than a club, it’s a family,” freshman club member Kachisieme Eze said.
Each meeting gives students an opportunity to dive into important topics like identity, social justice, and representation in the school community.
“Our goal is to bring everyone together, no matter their background,” freshman club member Dayo Ajakaye said. “We want people to learn, share, and grow

with us.” The group also plans fun events like workshops. They are about to host an event bringing different foods to help bring awareness to different cultures, which is the main goal for the Black Student Union.

Besides meetings, BSU hosts a variety of events throughout the year. On Black History Month, members organize pep rallies that have performances of Black excellence and achievement.
Black Student Union continues to grow every year, encouraging all students, no matter their background, to learn, support, and stand together. Through education, the Black Student Union reminds us that unity and understanding make our school stronger, and it continues to leave a lasting impact on both its members and the school as a whole. “The events we host make learning about Black culture fun and meaningful,” freshman club member Matthieu Le Menn said, “It opens people’s eyes to how connected we all really are.”
