Sustainability. A word and a concept that have been of increasing importance within the last few years. And it is not ignored within the Village School community; students from the entrepreneurship department have been tasked with developing their own environmentally conscious businesses. On October 8, 2025, student-led businesses Anthos, BioBrick and Next Use pitched their products to representatives from Moonshot Missions. Moonshot Missions is a non-profit organization whose mission is to develop water systems that deliver clean, affordable and sustainable water to everyone.
Students greatly appreciate the opportunity to receive feedback from professionals who carry real-world experiences within the fields that they strive to join. “We’re hoping to gain new ideas and a more efficient way of creating our product,” junior Grace Dustin said. With the feedback students were given, they now have the chance to continue the development of their pitches, products, and businesses so that they may cultivate a product that will be successful within their target market.
Not only did students view these pitches as a chance to improve their rising businesses and skills but they also actively networked with Moonshot Missions to expand their connections within the business community. It was seen as “a way to connect and explore partnerships for our company,” senior Sameeha Vaswani said. Entrepreneurship diploma candidates are therefore exposed to real world situations; they are able to gain experience early on, and consequently can exponentially develop the skills necessary for their success in the business world.
Moonshot Missions representatives also greatly benefited from listening to student pitches. “The creative solutions they came up with for these problems were truly impressive,” Corporate Managing Director Joshua Connelly said. Opportunities such as these – where professional business individuals evaluate student pitches – open doors to various connections, allowing students to develop their ideas with people who have experienced what is needed to succeed.
Sustainability is an ever-present aspect of our modern societies. Permitting students to develop their own solutions presents them with the chance to think on active issues, and in the future, it might prove to be what advanced our societies. “Your generation will be the one to actually solve these issues, and it’s more important than ever,” Connelly said.
