The SpeeDelivery team makes sure to take extra precautions when fulfilling orders.

Even during the stressful times of COVID-19, when most people are just trying to find new ways to adjust to their new circumstances and cope with the ever-changing situations, The Village High School students have continued to make an impact around them. With multiple student-driven initiatives being launched within the last few days, Vikings continue to display enthusiasm and drive even in trying times.

Within the last few weeks, SpeeDelivery, which utilizes contactless delivery and online payment, began fulfilling grocery orders for Viking families around the Greater Houston area who are unable to leave the house or  are at greater risk when exiting the house. SpeeDelivery was founded by five junior students: Anirudh Srinivasan (Communications Manager), Mukhil Ramesh (Finance Manager), Aditiya Agarwal (Web Developer), Omar Abouelazm (Web Developer), and Yazan Binnasser (Marketing Manager). The initiative has already fulfilled over $450 dollars worth of groceries.

“We started SpeeDelivery as a way to give back to our community,” said junior Mukhil Ramesh. “We saw the difficulty that senior citizens and people who were unable to leave their homes were facing, and we wanted to help them out through the delivery of groceries and essential goods during these trying times.”

While SpeeDelivery has been relieving stress off of the student body and their families, juniors Leanne Liaw, Joshua Varghese, and Maria Morkas have also been offering some additional help. They put together a presentation, dispelling some of the myths surrounding coronavirus. The content covered suggestions on how students can implement habits to maintain a sense of consistency while keeping safe.

“In a time where a lot of fake news is prevalent, we felt the need to distinguish between fact and myth,” said junior Maria Morkas. “It’s important to better inform the community about what steps need to be taken to keep themselves and those around them safe.”

Even with the difficulties COVID-19 has brought us, The Village School continues to be resilient and give to the community. Ambitious Vikings forever remind the world of the youth power.
