Student Government Debate

On Monday, March 4th, 2019, students had the opportunity to listen to the campaign statements of the candidates running for the President and Vice President positions. During the event, the candidates answered questions about the ideas and initiatives that they hope to implement if elected.

This year, there were three sets of President and Vice President candidates. These include (in no particular order)

  1. Juniors Camila Soler and Julia Bechara
  2. Juniors Divyesh Khatri and Akbarali Aziz
  3. Junior Sourav Banerjee and sophomore Dhruv Saligram

Carl Newman, the High School Director, and Zoe Montoney, the Assistant High School Director hosted the debate, asking selected questions from a pool of questions submitted by the student body and staff.

“The debate provided insight into each of the candidates’ position and policies,” junior Leyah Mathew said. “I think it will help me make an informed decision as I vote for student government representatives.”

Along with the president and vice president positions, students learned of the candidates running for the remaining vanguard positions. Juniors Penelope Slentz and Reuben Wilkinson are running for secretary, and sophomore Jillian Marty has already been selected as next year’s treasurer due to a lack of competition in the race.
