As of Nov. 6, 2025, the past 48 hours have been intense for Houstonians across counties, districts, and for Texas as a whole: the 2025 Texas and Houston Election results were released.
The race for Houston’s congressional seat, the highly contested District 18 left vacant by the late Sylvester Turner, remains undecided. The top two candidates, Democrats Christian Menefee and Amanda Edwards advanced into a runoff after neither received more than 50 percent of the vote. The runoff election for this vacant House seat will take place next year.
Statewide, all 17 proposed amendments for the Texas Constitution passed in favor. Of those, several may most directly affect members of The Village School community:
Proposition 2: The banning of the capital gains tax, a tax on profits made from selling assets related to real estate, bonds, metals, and stocks.
Proposition 4: The establishment of a $1 billion sales tax revenue into the Texas Water Fund, starting in 2027. This fund will increase water supply and allocation in the state.
Proposition 15: The addition of language in the Texas Constitution outlining the rights of parents.
Proposition 16: The addition of language in the Texas Constitution stating that non-U.S. citizens are not permitted to vote in state elections.
