The MSA (Muslim Student Association) is one of the various clubs offered at The Village School. Every Friday, the club meets together, Muslims and Non-Muslims alike. During that time, ideas are shared on how to make the world a more peaceful place and what activities can be done in the school to promote religious awareness.

“MSA is a volunteer club that promotes mutual understanding and awareness through the action of volunteering, in accordance to Islamic Principles,” said junior Saif Ganni . “ I want others to learn not to judge based on outward appearance, and instead, get to know a person based on their morals and character. In this world, we have to coexist!”

The MSA Club has many ongoing and past activities that Village School students can be a part of.

“MSA has participated and hosted many events inside and outside of school,” said Ganni. “Every Saturday, club members tutor refugee children at a mosque, teaching them math, english, and other academics. This school year, we have hosted the MSA Day of Silence and the clothing drive.”

Saif Ganni started the club two years ago with the goal of  giving back to the less fortunate. Asmaa Alaoui-Ismaili, the MSA Club Advisor, has loved the compassion and efforts that the club members bring  to the table.

“I like the spirit of the kids,” said Ms. Alaoui “[The] fact is that the club is very inclusive (with) lots of non-muslims. Everybody is all together for the same cause of serving others regardless of their race. [The] effort the kids have when they help the refugees is a noble cause and is very remarkable.”

The MSA Club’s serves on the principle to  spread peace and show that during tough times, happiness can be found. It wants to build commonality between students of different faiths and cultures through charity work at the Houston community level. To achieve these goals, the MSA has hosted many large  fundraisers such as the Day of Silence which raised over $600, with proceeds donated to a refugee shelter in Houston. The club also held a clothing drive recently. T The club’s biggest project, however, is the 3v3 Soccer Tournament in April.

“Our biggest project yet will be the upcoming MSA 3v3 Soccer Tournament, which I think the student body will really enjoy,” Ganni said.

Ganni encourages everyone to join in the fun as the donations will go towards a noble cause!
