Krav Maga Monday!
On Monday, January 13, 2020, juniors Beatriz Bechara and Mahault Menand hosted a Krav Maga self-defense class for students as their CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) project. Krav Maga, a style developed in the 1950s, is a self-defense fighting technique that was created by the Israeli army. The name itself means “contact combat” in Hebrew.
“[Self-defense] is a very important skill that not a lot of people know about,” Menand said. “And you’re in danger a lot of times. For example, all of our friends are going to college now and we’re gonna go to college soon and so many people get assaulted on a daily basis in the city and so we just thought that teaching this skill to our community would make us safer.”
Both Bechara and Menand thought this was a valuable skill that should be taught to The Village School students and thus, decided to communicate it through their CAS project. Krav Maga is a great way for students to learn to be safe and apply self-defense finesse during any potentially
threatening situations.
