Diversity in a Bite

On Saturday, October 26, 2019, The Village School held its first-ever annual International Food Festival in hopes of allowing children from a multitude of cultures to express themselves through their clothing, food, and customs.

Originally being a sub-part of the Winter Festival, The Village School decided to embrace the cultural diversity, being the 6th most diverse private high school in the country, as ranked by Niche.

“I enjoyed that all the cultures [were] represented at the International Food Festival,” sophomore Ella Xu, one of the representatives, said. “It really shows Village’s respect towards diversity. I find it incredibly significant that it gives parents an opportunity to share their culture’s special dishes, [and] it gives students the opportunity to learn and see life from different perspectives.”

The festival provides The Village School with an opportunity to embrace the variety of cultures within the school. From eating different types of food to learning different lifestyles, the festival was a primary representation of the wide range of cultures that people see in their day-to-day lives.
