A perfect blend of summer warmth and fall crispness. New York City: A cinematic space where the most iconic movies and culture took place. Or is it all just noise, long commute times, rudeness and a ruthless environment? The truth would be it’s a mix of both.
In order to navigate New York City, you have to balance fantasy with reality. Only then you can decide whether it lived up to the expectations.
When visiting New York City, there are some must see locations including the Statue of Liberty, which has long been regarded as a symbol of freedom and resilience, best appreciated from the ferry with skyline views. Biking or walking across the Brooklyn Bridge offers a chance to experience an iconic feature of architecture of the city while checking out some great views. Times Square, with its neon lights creates a vibrant glow to the city at night giving a true cinematic glow at night. In contrast, Central Park provides a much more relaxed laid back environment full of trees and fountains. And, of course, no trip to New York would be complete without catching a show on Broadway, as the city’s renowned theatre scene is a big part of what makes New York City special.
Aside from these top attractions, SoHo in lower Manhattan has its sidewalks lined up with fashionable boutiques, art galleries, and cozy cafes. It is the perfect neighborhood in which to sip craft coffee, take pictures, and soak up a stylish atmosphere. Passing time on the Upper East Side shows another aspect of the city that exhibits tendencies of elegance and calmness. The museums themselves, The Metropolitan Museum of Art (the Met) among them are forever in time a must see and the neat and peaceful is a good counterpoint to the rest of the city’s neighborhoods. New York City is busy and hectic but the rhythm is rather relentless, much very fast moving traffic and people that can be tiring and overwhelming at times, especially for those who are not used to that hectic city life.
To someone from a less busy city, this environment offers a number of possibilities for discovering, building and adopting the culture, yet also demands toughness. To those open to the hurriedness and dynamism of the manner in which individuals live New York City will be an experience to tell. Overall I’d give it a 4 out of 5 for its energy and vitality.
