Today, AI (artificial intelligence) is everywhere; everyone uses it everyday and everywhere. It’s everywhere such as Spotify, recommending songs for the user, ChatGPT. giving people answers, and even on Tesla, by having the automatic driving feature. It’s becoming a big part of our world today, so wouldn’t it make sense to start teaching about AI in schools? If kids nowadays or in future generations were taught this, it would prepare them to actually understand it and how to use it properly, possibly even discover new things.
AI is already a huge part of our lives today, whether we like it or not. A lot or if not every job uses AI to function in the world we live in. So learning about it now, it gives us or future generations a head start. Even if one’s job or profession isn’t in tech, it still shows up in medicine, sports, education and even more things like online shopping. The more we understand and learn about AI, the more we know how to control it and use it to help us.
However, AI is also used in the wrong ways; in these AI classes, there should be a set amount of rules about proper uses of AI. Right now, some students use AI to do their homework or write essays; they don’t really use it to benefit themselves or learn anything. And this is where responsibility comes in, knowing how to use AI and responsibly using it would be better for anyone and having more knowledge of how AI works.
AI isn’t all about tech and coding; it can also be used for really creative and fun uses. Students can use AI to help you make story ideas, make interesting digital art and possibly help you make music more, even possibly build games. If schools have AI classes, students could work on cool projects like building simple software or even designing something new with an AI image tool. This could make school more interesting, especially for kids who don’t really enjoy regular subjects. These AI classes might even help someone find a new passion or make something new that possibly can be life changing.
“AI is everywhere now, on our phones, in our apps like Spotify, Pinterest, and Instagram, and we use it without even realizing it. If we had classes that actually taught us how it works, I think more students would be excited to learn.” said freshman, Michelle Uwangue, a student “We could use it for fun things like art or music, not just schoolwork. It would also help us learn how to use it the right way, not just copy answers.
In the end, I think adding AI classes to The Village School is a great idea. As it would be a great addition for the new Computer Science Diploma as well as just a regular class. It would help us understand the world a little bit better, and teach us how to use powerful tools to help us in the future as AI advances, even opening up for new and exciting opportunities. AI isn’t just a thing for technological experts anymore, it’s something where everyone will end up having to use for our everyday lives now and in the near future.
“AI isn’t just for tech experts anymore, it’s something everyone uses. Teaching it in school helps students understand how it works and how to use it responsibly.” said sophomore, Janvi Natarajan, a student in AP Computer Science A “I think classes like this would fit well with the Computer Science Diploma, but even students who aren’t into coding could benefit from it.”
