It might look like another trendy item (as it kind of is), but its unexpected usefulness for filming and selfies has made it a must-have for Gen Z content creators. Whether you’re recording a day-in-a-life vlog or just FaceTiming hands-free, Octobuddy’s rise in popularity isn’t a surprise. It’s functional and it turns almost any flat surface into a personal tripod.
The Octobuddy is a small, rectangular pad made from durable silicone, with rows of suction cups on one side and adhesive on the other. It sticks securely to your phone or case and allows your device to stick onto flat surfaces like mirrors, windows, tiles or anything with a smooth surface. It comes in many different colors and styles. Popularized by influencers like Alix Earle, the Octobuddy has been in many routines of content creators who need both hands free while filming.
Overall, the product does exactly what it promises, which is why I think it’s a great item to buy especially for teenage girls. The suction cups when I put my phone on any smooth surface are pretty strong, and I personally enjoyed using it while I was getting ready with my friends on call or when I’m watching a movie when I’m getting ready for bed. I also think it’s a convenient way for content creators to have their phone at a convenient height as well.
That said, the Octobuddy does have a few limitations. It only sticks well to smooth, clean surfaces, and not textured walls or even uneven material don’t really work as well. Even trying to stick it onto smooth surfaces, applying more pressure to make your phone stick onto these surfaces is needed, otherwise the risk of your phone falling is high.
Compared to other phone accessories like PopSockets and/or tripods that have been popular in the past, the Octobuddy seems more like a convenient item and a fidget toy to play with. I’d rate it out of a 9 out of 10. I really enjoy this product as it was very convenient for me and it’s pretty as another accessor on my phone. I’d definitely recommend this to students at The Village School as there are a lot of TikTok users and students who are always looking for other ways to be able to use this product. Its simple design is all about functionality, making it a practical and reliable option for those looking for something more than just a basic item.
