This morning, November 15, 2024, some of The Village School Vikings started their day earlier than most. At 5 a.m., about 15 students gathered on the turf field, running mile intervals in the cold autumn air.

The Arbor Relay, a tradition at The Village School for the past decade, is a 15-hour fundraising event where students and staff run in three five-hour shifts. The event supports the Arbor School, a Houston-based institution that provides specialized education for children with special needs. “They use the money that we fundraise to buy supplies that they need to provide the best possible education,” said junior Kishan Patel, who is in charge of the fundraiser this year.

The race is a great way to help others out while staying active. “I’ve been here for three hours and fifteen minutes, and I’ve run five miles already,” said second-time runner, senior Sofia Sehgal.
