NEW YORK FASHION WEEK!
New York fashion week was filled with many exciting, new collections from different fashion brands. Taking place from September 9 to September 14 in 2022, the event saw brands such as Louis Vuitton, and Gucci. Also they added a south asian collection, as well as their brands, displaying their new styles for the new season. I asked Sloan Hollingsworth, junior, about her opinion about fashion weekend and her opinions on what everyone else was thinking. Hollingsworth makes designs for a website called takedown shop. She stated “I loved the diversity and being able to see new cultures. The designs were very colorful and bold.” The seasonal event had many well known models such as Bella Hadid and Gigi Hadid, as well as some memorable experiences such as the spray on dress that Bella Hadid modeled for Coperni. New York fashion week included new collections, cultural clothing, designs, etc which all gave us deep insight on the expansion of the fashion industry.
Something that has been trending on tiktok is the southasian collection presented during fashion week which was absolutely beautiful. Shipra Sharma, founder and CEO of south asian NYFW pitched an idea to get south asian clothes to be in NYFW and people had no exposure to what south asian clothing is. Designer Naseer Khan stated “I’m really proud to see the evolution of our next generation taking center stage in New York and the United States”. M.R. Rangaswami was talking about how all the clothes were adapted to the west but the culture was still maintained. Sama Ali Khan is a half Indian and half Pakistani who is the founder and CEO of Aara by Sana, all of her outfits in NYFW were influenced by her dual citizenship. Her outfits were known by her black and white blazers and juxtapositions of black and white. Overall, the south asian collection displayed at fashion week boosted exposure of the beautiful culture and all the clothing shown off during the week were stunning!
