New Challenges in Ozark

The Byrdes are back and better than ever. After almost 2 years of break, everyone’s favorite money-laundering family has returned for the fourth season of “Ozark” season four, which was released on Netflix on Friday, January 21, 2022. Fortunately, these new episodes maintain the show’s tradition of delivering multi-personality character complexes, dramatic dialogue, unpredictable plot twists, and excellent film production. The result is a show that is impossible not to binge.

Season four picks up right where the previous season left off, after the gory plot twist that only true Ozark fans know about. This unpredictable scene was a perfect ending point to build up maximum suspense and introduce the start of season four. It foreshadows the shockingly high levels of violence that characterize the episodes. However, “Ozark” is careful never to slip into the form of a cheesy, cliche action film, despite delivering the most dramatic moments of destruction which perfectly escalate the plot.

While being tasked with obtaining immunity for their ruthless drug cartel boss Omar Navarro, the Byrdes turn to FBI Agent Maya Miller. While she had a smaller recurring role in season three, she plays a dominant role in season four. Jessica Dukes brilliantly portrays her character’s struggle to maintain her safety and ability to survive as she becomes further involved in the Byrdes’ chaotic world. Her chemistry with Marty, a man who she both deeply respects and greatly fears, sets the foundation for one of the show’s most interesting relationships.

Few shows on television now have managed to improve exponentially over time and offer viewers consistent, shocking plot twists and genuinely thrilling entertainment. However,  “Ozark” is a show that excels in doing this. And if that isn’t convincing enough, tune in to see Julia Garner’s impressive performance as Ruth Langmore builds up to an emotional explosion at the end of the final episode which is truly unlike anything Ozark lovers have seen before. I would rate this season an 8/10.
