The song “Drivers License” has gone viral and became a sensation hit on Spotify and TikTok. “Drivers License” released on Thursday, January 7, 2021, written and sung by artist and actress Oliva Rodrigo. It set Spotify’s record for most streams in a day (for a non-holiday song) with over 15.17 million global streams, making Rodrigo’s most successful song yet. 

This song about heartbreak is not only incredibly relatable but is obviously a personal subject for Rodrigo. Her personal story stirred gossip and drama surrounding the song. Fans could see that the meaning of the lyrics was identical to the way her ex-boyfriend, actor Joshua Bassett, ended things with her and began a new relationship with singer and actress Sabrina Carpenter. One line from the song made this rumor evident, “ You’re probably with that blonde girl.”

I would rate the song 5 out of 5. “Drivers License” contains a relatable message and beautiful melody that compliments Rodrigo’s voice. I would recommend this song to all my high school peers, whether they can relate to it or not. There are plenty of songs about heartbreak, but many are convoluted with too many themes, contexts, or messages. However, “Drivers License” is simple and many teenagers find themselves represented in it. The song deserves all the popularity it has attained because it is beautiful, relatable, and truthful.
