Club Spotlight: Girl Up Village
As COVID-19 continues its rampage across the globe, another unexpected crisis has arisen – domestic violence against women. While violence against girls was a horror long before the COVID crisis hit, with everyone now confined to their homes, cases of rape and domestic assault have risen drastically. To shed some light on this issue, Girl Up Village hosted a Winter Raffle beginning in December and through January to raise funds for victims of violence. Prizes included candy and stickers, a $4o pizza coupon, and Village merchandise.
Girl Up Village is a club dedicated to working towards a world where girls have equal value, opportunity, and the resources to reach their fullest potential. Their plans for 2021 include but are not limited to hosting a wide-scale virtual event for a prominent global issue, advocating for women’s social and political issues through social media, and raising funds to support girls around the globe. When girls rise, we all rise!
“My experience with Girl Up has been quite positive,” said Elizabeth Streeter, a dedicated member of the club. “I enjoyed being in the raffle organization process, it was exciting to see an idea become a successful reality!”
