Attack on Titan: The Final Season Official Poster

Starting Monday, December 7, 2020, episodes of Attack on Titan: The Final Season began airing weekly every Sunday on Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Hulu. The latest episode, “The War Hammer Titan”  aired on Sunday, January 17, 2021. The anime series first began in 2013, adapted from the manga of the same name. The fanbase quickly grew thereafter and the show is now well renowned in both Japan and the U.S.

The plot begins with a young Eren Jaeger living in a post-apocalyptic world run by humanoid-like titans. These titans are unintelligent and possess a hunger for human flesh. The only protection humanity has is the 3 walls they live within, which titans are unable to cross. The outermost wall being Wall Maria, where Eren resides. The story begins when Wall Maria falls, and Eren witnesses his hometown destroyed and mother killed by titans. Thus, Eren vows to cleanse Earth of these titans.

At first glance, Attack on Titan seems to be your typical, post-apocalyptic action show. However, it handles many mature themes such as death, love, morality, government corruption, and racism in ways that are thought-provoking and full of nuance and perspective. Even if viewers perceive it as a post-apocalyptic action show, it is exceptionally well-done. Fans are left on the edge of their seats anticipating every action scene and rooting for the main cast of characters.

Attack on Titan also provides a cohesive plot, full of twists and turns that leaves you wanting to watch episodes for hours on end. The lore behind the Anime series is enticing and full of wondrous secrets. It makes the plot easily digestible, but there are always new details to uncover in every episode. This is what makes the show so bingeable, especially in quarantine.

Overall, I would heavily recommend this Anime series to all those that enjoy a well-written plot, complicated characters, and spectacular action scenes. However, before watching, it is important to note this series is rated TV-Mature and contains scenes not suitable for all audiences. I rate Attack on Titan a 9.5/10.
