Monster Hunter is an Action/Fantasy movie that takes place in a new dimensional world. Released on Thursday, December 3, 2020, this movie was inspired by a game called Monster Hunter which was made by Capcom. The Monster Hunter franchise of fantasy-themed, action role-playing video games started with the release of the game for PlayStation 2 in 2004. Now, versions have been released across home consoles portable consoles, personal computers, and mobile devices. Monster Hunter is written and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson.
The plot follows Lt. Artemis, the protagonist, and an elite unit of soldiers get transported to a strange world where powerful monsters rule with deadly ferocity. Faced with relentless danger, the team encounter a mysterious hunter who may be their only hope to find a way back home. Their journey to get back home won’t be easy. They must go up against huge monster’s and dangerous biomes. As they go on this path, some of them won’t survive to see another day.
I enjoyed the movie because it was familiar from a popular video game. Additionally, it is an exhilarating experience to watch characters causing total mayhem in the real world. Similar to the Sonic the Hedgehog live action movie, Monster Hunt was based on a game character that viewers have cherished. Monster Hunter is an epic battle worth watching between monsters and hunters taking place in our world.
Certain viewers do not enjoy the movie because the protagonist and her comrades are both in the military. However, that actually adds depth to the movie. This is because the fighters used to fight against humans, but in this case they are fighting against monsters taller than a building! Which most viewers would agree but this is a movie based on fantasy. Which makes the movie more interesting to watch and to see what will happen in the plot of the story.
Overall “Monster Hunter” is an action-packed thriller with a fascinating plot that is based on a video game. Perhaps if you watch and enjoy the movie, you just might buy the game too. I give the movie a 9/10.
