Basketball has Bounced Back to VHS

With the new winter sports season in full swing, I asked sophomore, Deji Fagbayi, if he knew anyone else who was excited for the sports season. He told me that many of his friends were excited and that he could not wait to start playing with them. “Pre-season was handled very well and we got lots of exercises to prepare us for the upcoming season,” said Fagbayi. “As a basketball player, I was not able to play on the courts. However, we were able to go after just two weeks.”

Some days practice gets canceled due to unforeseen circumstances, such as the gas leak that occurred last month. His varsity basketball practices occur Monday to Friday from 6:00 AM to 8:30 AM at the earliest and are located in the VAC most days.

“I am extremely thankful to be a part of the basketball team,” said Fagbayi. “I am glad to be on Varsity and I have been developing into a better team player. My basketball skills have also gotten much better.”  During team practices, there is always a risk of contracting COVID-19, greatly impacting the team’s performance. A JV player recently contracted the virus, and that the whole team has to quarantine as a result. Precautions like this are necessary, however, and they show that the Village basketball coaches really do care about their players’ well being.
